Vista Refugio Tinquilco

37 kms from Pucón, in southern Chile, east of the city of Temuco, Lake Tinquilco is located near the well known Lake Caburgua resort. Surrounded by Huerquehue National Park, Tinquilco offers a variety of hikes of different difficulty, including overnight trails to the Rio Blanco hotsprings, refreshing rain, hot sun, a warm bed, clean bathrooms and good food. Tinquilco Lodge opened in January 1998, a dream made real by Igor Rosenmann, architect, Fernando Lanfranco, engineer, Lake Sagaris, writer, and Patricio Lanfranco, host, organizer, chef and a film/TV producer/director. It's a gathering place, a sharing place, a meeting place. It also aims to raise awareness of and feed a passion for Chile's few remaining wildernesses, in order to encourage their protection. Open from early September to late May.

Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed; if we permit the last virgin forests to be turned into comic books and plastic cigarette cases, if we dirty the last clean streams and push our paved roads through the last of the silence... Without any remaining wilderness we are committed wholly to a headlong drive into the Brave New World of a completely man-controlled environment. We need wilderness preserved because it was the challenge against which our character as a people was formed. Wallace Stegner, author
